Conduct A Preschool Bible Class At Home

Writer: QC HuntQC Hunt

One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is Proverbs 22:6. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

As a little girl, I remember my parents quoting this all the time. When we would have home bible studies and home family time, somehow or another this scripture would always come up.

Now, as a mother myself, this scripture still has not escaped me! One way that I like to apply this scripture to my life is by conducting a preschool bible class at home with my boys.

When the news bombarded us with Coronavirus stats, for a while, everything we knew shut down. Many people thought we could no longer worship or take our children to bible study. But I am here to tell you that if you run into any of these problems, you do have the option to do your own bible class at home with your children.

Even before we had a Coronavirus problem, I would do home bible classes with my boys. It was just something I always wanted to make sure I did with them. Whenever a child was sick, or if something happened to where we could not make bible class, I conducted a class at home.

People think that going to church is the only time a child should learn about God, but they forget that learning starts right at home.

I started the class by assigning everyone a role and following a layout activity chart. The first child chose a song to sing.

After singing, I chose another child to pray and take simple prayer requests. We also did a memory chant.

A memory chant is an activity that you do during each class to practice memorizing something. Memory verses and the books of the bible are some things you can use during memory chant time.

Next, I chose a story to read out of the bible and picked 3-5 questions that I thought would be interesting to ask about the story. One of the questions was a thought provoking question. After that, I picked an activity and we talked about what they’ve learned.

You can do the same with your child. If you need to simplify it for your child, you can act out a bible story or use storytelling to just tell them about the bible story. If you don’t have a story that you know well enough from the bible, you can also use preschool bible story books. Just make sure they line up with the scriptures.

This is definitely a fun way to learn about God. You can have home bible class once a week, twice or even three times a week, after all you are training your child! And I am sure it will please God that you, as a parent, is doing what he says to do.
